Welcome to How Change Happens: Stories and Insights from Social Justice Changemakers — a podcast for those committed to creating a more just and liberatory world.
I'm your host, Kai Fierle-Hedrick, a coach, facilitator, learning and change strategist, and founder of Create Knowledge — a coaching and consulting practice that helps change agents lead with their strengths.
When you tune in, you'll hear me chatting with change makers who work in all kinds of spaces: organizing, DEI, healing justice, learning and evaluation, philanthropy, narrative change, and so on. We'll explore the thinking behind their practice and share real stories of the complexity, challenges, and joys of creating change — in the world and in ourselves. In short, this is a show about the messiness of praxis and what emerges when our theories meet our day to day lives.
The podcast came about through a collision of my special interest in this topic, a desire to amplify the inspiring people in my orbit, and one of my favorite quotes from Donella Meadows book, Thinking In Systems. Meadows wrote: "Remember, always, that everything you know and everything everyone knows is only a model. Get your model out there where it can be viewed. Invite others to challenge your assumptions and add their own." How Change Happens is an invitation to make our thinking visible and get our models out there. Because knowledge is power. And I believe it's most powerful when we create it together.
Season one of How Change Happens launches on January 4th, 2025. If you're inspired by what you just heard and want to stay connected, I invite you to follow us on whichever platform you're listening from. And please consider rating or reviewing the show so we can share what we're learning far and wide, and improve as we go.
This podcast is a Create Knowledge production. Our music, a remix of the song "Ti Baba" is by the duo Romane and Gaël. And if you're curious about Create Knowledge, you can learn more at www.createknowledge.org.
